We do not run criminal background checks, sex offender registry checks, or identity verification against government records on anyone who uses Lark. A member being on Lark, being verified, or being vouched for by a friend tells you nothing about their criminal history. Please read the rest of this page before meeting anyone.
Lark is no substitute for caution when meeting a stranger. Even when a friend has vouched for someone, you are still meeting a person you do not know. Before you go, tell a friend or family member where you are going and when, and arrange to check in with them afterwards. Meet in a public place and stay in public places. Do not let anyone pick you up from your home, and do not let them drop you off there. Arrange your own transport, both ways, so you can leave whenever you want to. If anything feels wrong, leave. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
Never share your last name, email address, home address, phone number, workplace, or any other identifying information until you have met and you are confident about who you are talking to. Never send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or financial account details to anyone you have met here, for any reason. If someone asks you for personal or financial information, stop communicating with them and report them to us.
Romance scams follow a pattern, and knowing the pattern is most of the defence. Someone moves very fast emotionally and talks about a future together within days. They avoid video calls and always have a reason they cannot meet. Their photos look professional or too perfect. They ask to move the conversation to another app quickly. Then a crisis appears: a medical bill, a customs fee, a stranded trip, an investment opportunity that is closing today. The request for money is always urgent and always has a story attached. No genuine match will ever need your money. If this is happening to you, you have not done anything foolish, and you are not the first. Stop replying, report them here, and if you have already sent money you can report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI at ic3.gov.
Every profile, every pitch, and every chat has a report control on it, shown as a flag icon. Reporting takes a few seconds, the person you report is never told that you reported them, and you can block someone at the same time so they disappear from your experience immediately. You can also email us at safety@larkdating.com and we will respond. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We would always rather see a report that turns out to be nothing than not see one that was something.

Photo verification, where a member has completed it, compares a live selfie against their profile photos using an automated check. It is a limited signal that the person in the photos is the person holding the phone. It is not an identity check, an age check, or a background check, and it does not tell you anything about who someone is or what they intend. We also screen pitches and messages automatically for harmful content, and we act on reports. None of that makes anyone safe to meet. Only your own judgment does that.
